Web Design and Development Process
Creative Design

Web design is an important part of the corporate web presence. It gives your customers the first impression of your style, your products and services. Kappa Solutions provides professional web design services to make sure your corporate image is reflected in your web site style.

We start with an initial meeting or a conference call to review your design requirements and expectations. Based on the collected information we will prepare a creative brief document outlining the following aspects of the project:

  • Project objectives
  • Target audiences, their characteristics and priorities
  • Unique Selling Proposition (USP) – what makes the organization, program or service unique
  • Top features and/or facts about the program, service or organization, and its value to audiences
  • Design tone or image
  • Project budget and time frame
  • Internal review and approval process

Once the creative brief is finalized and approved, we start working on site design composites. We usually prepare 2-3 composites presenting different themes/layouts. The composites are presented in PDF format and reviewed with you. You select the theme/layout that meets your expectations the most and provide us with your feedback if any changes or adjustments need to be made. We will then update the selected composite and present it for your approval. Once the composite is finalized, depending on the technology used by the web site being designed, we implement the design using technology-specific tools:

  • For HTML web sites, an HTML template(s), a set of images and CSS style sheet(s) are created.
  • For ASP.NET sites or web applications, a master page (or pages), a set of images and CSS style sheets are created.
  • For SharePoint portals, a master page (or pages), page layouts, a set of images and custom core.css and other CSS style sheets are created.

The design implementation is then used by our team for the content page creation and deployment of your new web site or application to the hosting environment.

Interaction Design

We use the following artifacts are produced as part of the user interaction design process.

Wireframes – A wireframe is a sketch of how the layout of a webpage should look and behave. Key page elements and their location are decided on and drafted. Proposed behavior, structure, navigation, and content layout are all captured within the wireframe. You can think of a wireframe as the blueprint for your website or application.

Navigation Flows – Creating a logical and straightforward flow of the website or application screens is essential in developing a user-friendly system. We create flow charts that outline the user navigation from screen to screen including conditions and branching. This provides a clear picture of how a user will be able to get from one area of the website or application to another.

Prototypes – Major screens and website or application flows are prototyped to demonstrate the navigation and provide a feel for the system behaviors in response to user actions.

Wireframes, Navigation Flows and Prototypes are then used by the development team in the implementation process.

Implementation

Once the design is complete, our team starts the development of the web site or application. Development includes creation of the HTML or ASP.NET pages, programming (if required), and deployment to the hosting environment. Kappa Solutions also performs submission of the new site to search providers, such as Google, Bing and Yahoo! and performs the initial search engine optimization (SEO) of the site.
